  • To get to the train station or other airport from the international airport, you can either take a taxi or a van, or a bus, and you can either do this on your own or we can arrange the transportation for you. Those who are going to travel on their own are well advised to change $10 at the airport so they can pay for the shuttle buses and a short lift from the Victory Sq., if needed, in Grivnas (to pay UAH 15, in dollars, for example, is inconvenient [$1 bills and coins are NOT accepted]).

  • If you travel on your own to the local airport or to the train station in Kiev, you can get a taxi at the airport. Pay the driver no more than $25 to either destination (it can be as low as $20); the asking price is subject to bargaining. Keep in mind that few drivers will speak any English - though you might be able to manage with pen and paper.

  • You can also take a local bus that runs on a regular schedule between the airport and several blocks from the train station for only the equivalent of $2 to $3. You can also use the shuttle bus services. (You would need to have several dollars/euros exchanged for the local currency - 'grivnas': Currency Exchange booths are right in the arrivals terminal - be sure not to exchange any money from numerous individuals offering to do that outside the booths). There are two types of buses that pull over at the side of the curb, to the left as you walk out the arrival terminal. The big buses (normally red colour) take off every 30 mins or so, the fare is 11 Grivnas ($2.+) (2004). The other type is the taxi minivans that come and leave more often and will cost you 15 Grivnas ($3) or so (2002). There may be some $10 buses as well. Check for fares and schedules inside the international terminal.

Whatever the type you use, they will take you to the Victory Square ("Ploshcha Peremogy"), an end stop some ten to twenty minutes' walk from the railway station (the duration of the walk depends on you and your luggage!).

  • If you are going to the national (local) airport from the bus that stops near the train station, you will need to take a taxi to the airport; fare should not be more than 30 Grivnas ($5 - unverified fare).
  • If you wish, we can arrange transportation with a driver that we routinely use. The driver has to drive out to the airport, which means he must charge $30-35 (up to $50 for vans) to the train station and $30 to the national airport. If you ask our driver to take you around the city, please add $10. This includes going to St. Andrew's/Painters' Street to buy souvenirs. (Consult your schedule to see if it is best to do it upon arrival or departure.) The value of using a driver we arrange for you is that there is usually someone with him that knows some English and he is fully trustworthy if you need to leave your belongings with him while seeing some of the city or waiting between flight arrival and train departure.
Whether you arrive in Simferopol by train or plane, if we know your schedule, we will have someone meet you and take you to either the CAC office or your host's apartment.
