The Life is in the Blood

The life is in the blood (not the body itself actually?).

It is such an interesting concept. It is not the body that is where the "life" is, but something (or some component?) in the blood.

When Cain killed Abel, God says something very interesting:

Genesis 4:10 "And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground."

In the Mosaic Law there are many references to the importance of blood. Here are a few:

Exodus 12:13 "And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye [are]: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy [you], when I smite the land of Egypt."

Exodus 24:6 "And Moses took half of the blood, and put [it] in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar."

Leviticus 7:26-27 "Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, [whether it be] of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings. Whatsoever soul [it be] that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people."

Deuteronomy 12:27 "And thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, upon the altar of the LORD thy God: and the blood of thy sacrifices shall be poured out upon the altar of the LORD thy God, and thou shalt eat the flesh."

In the New Testament we also see the importance of blood. Jesus said:

Luke 22:20 "Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup [is] the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you."

St. Paul clarifies:

Romans 5:9 "Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."

1 Corinthians 11:25 "After the same manner also [he took] the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink [it], in remembrance of me."

As Gentiles began to be added to the New Testament believers, the Apostles determined the important rules to retain, exempting them from the Mosaic Law:

Acts 21:25 "As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written [and] concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from [things] offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication."

Scripture teaches: (Leviticus 17:11a) "For the life of the flesh [is] in the blood...."
