There is a lot about angels that we do not know. We have a variety of clues in Scripture. At least some of them are hyper-intelligent. We know that humans are a lower order of created beings than them:
Psalm 8:4-5 "What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour."
(Note that some of the corrupted modern Bibles purposely mis-translate "lower than the angels" into a perverted "lower than God" - that is not accurate, a Satanic deception. The Serpent is subtle, trying to use liberal theologians to pervert the Scriptures.)
There are a few angels who have appeared to humans at pivotal times in human history. In the Bible only three angels are named: Michael, Gabriel, and Satan (formerly: Lucifer).
Shepherds saw a host of angels on the night when Jesus was born. At the Resurrection and Christ's Ascension - angels appeared and spoke briefly to the followers of Jesus.
Humans can have guardian angels. They are "messengers" while we humans are "workers" or "servants." In other words we were created to have a different intended purpose from that of the angels. Recall that God gave Adam a job to do, tend the garden. That was not a part of the curse that came afterwards. Six days of labor, and one day of rest per week.
One-third of the angels fell from God and followed Satan in rebellion. This rebellion continues today. They remain very powerful beings.
Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
Satan (a.k.a. Lucifer, or the Serpent) wants to ascend and be "like God" ... but the job is already taken! We see glimpses of angelic interactions in Job, chapters 1 & 2, and concerning the devil's intents in particular in Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28.
An angel spoke to Daniel, arriving with a prophetic message for him. He alluded to angelic battles. Daniel 10:13 "But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia." (Also see verse 20.)
Angels can be not only hyper-intelligent, but also of tremendous power. Isaiah 37:36 tells us of one angel killing 185,000 Assyrians in a single night. Don't mess with them, unless necessary! For those who have a ministry of casting out unclean spirits, be careful. And we humans need to remember our place. Though our enemies, fallen angels should not be mocked. Scripture is clear on this.
In Jude, verse 9, we see the archangel Michael and the devil contending over the body of Moses. And note that Michael did not bring any accusations or charges against the serpent, which is quite interesting. Jude verses 8 & 10 states that those who despise dominions and speak evil of dignities (no matter which side they're on?) are evil themselves. Also see 2 Peter 2:10 "But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities."
Cherubim and Seraphim are not little puffy-cheeked babies with wings. No! They are high orders of angels with powers that we can only imagine.
Jesus said to not rejoice that we have power over demons, but rather to rejoice that our names are written in the Book of Life. And it is interesting that the three times in the Bible where we see glimpses into the Throne room of God, there are powerful 4-faced angels surrounding His Throne. Isaiah 6, Ezekiel 1, and Revelation 4.
Ezekiel 1:10 "As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle"
Finally, the Nephilim. Angels taking human women and producing perverted offspring, i.e. the giants of old. They appear to be directly related to the Anakin (anakim, sons of Anak), or evil giants. But theologians sometimes strongly disagree on the topic of the "Nephilim."
Genesis 6:2 "That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose." They took the women. The Hebrew for "sons of God" is "B'ne Elohim." These could not be the descendents of Seth, as being somehow more righteous. And in any event other descendents of Seth were not invited onto the Ark, now were they? No this is something different. Humans (after Adam & Eve, until the time of Jesus (John 1:12), were "sons of man." Only Adam & Eve and the angels were "sons of God," i.e. direct creations of God. It also appears to relate to Jude, verse 6. And some contend that they (though now in chains of darkness) will be released and soon begin attacking modern women in this way. No man or woman would be able to stop them. But this time ... they'll pretend to be "our older brothers" as advanced aliens from distant worlds, and humans will fall for it.
